7 Murray Rose Avenue commercial building

The 6,000 sqm commercial/retail building at 7 Murray Rose Avenue in Sydney, Australia, was created to meet national environmental sustainability standards.

Drinking water and gas installation with copper press connection system

When it comes to energy-efficient architecture, the contemporary 7 Murray Rose Avenue, located in Sydney’s Olympic Park precinct, is at the forefront.

Designed by award-winning architectural firm Bates Smart, the 6,000sqm commercial/retail building (the Australian headquarters of prominent defence contractor Thales Australia) was created to meet national environmental sustainability standards. Integral to the project brief was the need to meet a five-star green star rating and a 4.5 NABERS* energy and water rating.

The need for copper

When it came to the plumbing components, contractors D&W Plumbing were required to use copper. They sought a solution that could be rapidly and easily installed, was safe and clean, and offered a high aesthetic value upon installation.

“Our clients were confident the Viega Profipress system (Australian standard) would provide a better quality installed system than a brazed system, and thus provide peace of mind,” says Darrin White, project manager with D&W Plumbing. “The Viega products also enabled the installers to be efficient on site, which was vital.”

Combining safety, expedience and performance

D&W Plumbing used a range of Viega products for the project, including DN 15 to DN 100 Profipress G gas fittings and DN 15 to DN 100 Profipress fittings for potable and non-potable water as well as fire hose reels.

“There have been a number of benefits – time-saving, safety on site, ease of installation, plus it’s a better looking system,” says White.
